Standards compliance

We currently comply with the following standards:

WAI accreditationHTMLcss validationWebXACTInternet Content Rating Association (ICRA)

  1. All pages on this site pass WebXACT™ priority 1 checkpoints (priority 3 with Low Graphics Version). This is always a judgement call; many accessibility features can be measured, but many can not. I have reviewed all the guidelines and believe that all these pages are in compliance.
  2. All pages on this site is WCAG A approved (Triple-A with Low Graphics Version), complying with all priority 1 (priority 3 with Low Graphics Version) of the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. Again, this is a judgement call; many guidelines are intentionally vague and can not be tested automatically. I have reviewed all the guidelines and believe that all these pages are in compliance.
  3. All pages on this site validate as HTML 4.01 Transitional. This is not a judgement call; a program can determine with 100% accuracy whether a page is valid HTML. For example, check this page for HTML validity.
  4. All pages on this site use validated Cascading Style sheets (css) for conformance to W3C recommendations. For example, check this page for css validity.
  5. All pages on this site use structured semantic markup. H1 tags are used for main titles, H2 tags for subtitles.
  6. This website has a content rating based on the ICRA labelling system.

Content Rating

The Internet Content Rating Association (ICRA) is an international, non-profit organisation of internet leaders working to make the internet safer for children, while respecting the rights of content providers. This website is ICRA labelled in order that filtering software will allow or block access based on the information declared in the label. ICRA does not rate internet content - the content providers do that, using the ICRA labelling system. The content of the GWHA website is aimed at an adult audience of tenants and residents, however, we believe that there is no material which a parent or guardian would consider unsuitable for children.

Navigation aids

This website provides a consistent navigation system:

  3. All pages have a previous, next and up link.
  4. All pages include a search box.

Links

  1. Many links have title attributes which describe the link in greater detail, unless the text of the link already fully describes the target (such as the headline of an article).
  2. Links are written to make sense out of context.

Images

  1. All content images used in this site include descriptive ALT attributes. Purely decorative graphics include null ALT attributes.

Visual design

  1. This site uses cascading style sheets for visual layout.
  2. This site uses only relative font sizes, compatible with the user-specified "text size" option in visual browsers.
